How to find us

Vessel Registration

Compulsory registration prior to port entry

All vessels calling at a port are obliged to report electronically using the National Single Window (NSW) web client or a port information system provider.

The notification obligations result from the currently applicable legal regulations, such as Anlaufbedingungsverordnung (AnlBV), Niedersächsische Hafenordnung (NHafenO), Niedersächsisches Abfallgesetz (NAbfG), Gesetz zur Durchführung der Internationalen Gesundheitsvorschriften (IGV-DG), etc. In some cases, exceptions from the notification obligations are possible.

Vessels which are exempt from one or more notification obligations can use the JWP-Portal for private-law notification. To read all port-specific regulations for vessels calling at the container port and other useful documents, please refer to the downloads.

Waste Disposal

We deal with your waste

All vessels are obliged to notify us of their waste. This is compulsory – please do not forget to do so! All watercraft have to notify us of waste disposal and discharge on the JWP portal, “Waste disposal”, 24 hours before entering the port. (Section 35 of the Lower Saxony Waste Act, NAbfG).

The waste disposal fees are based on classifications for ship sizes and are invoiced separately pursuant to MARPOL I and MARPOL V.

Waste disposal is handled by the companies stated in the ship waste management plan (SABP). The SABP also includes details of whom to contact in the event of problems with waste disposal and discharge.

Exemptions from the waste disposal obligation are possible pursuant to Section 35 (2) NAbfG or on presentation of the appropriate documentation to the port authority (Section 35 (3) NAbfG). Such vessels are not obliged to pay the waste disposal charges (Section 38 (1) NAbfG).

The relevant forms “Report on Ship’s Waste”, the “Application for Certificate of Exemption”, the “Application for pro rata reimbursement of the actual disposal costs” and the “Form for reporting alleged inadequateness of waste collection units in the port” are available under Downloads.

The “General Terms and Conditions of JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co. KG”, including the price list as amended from time to time, apply.

Estuary pilots

Vessels which fall under the category of Section 30 (1) SeeSchStrO (German maritime navigation regulations, see below) are obliged to take an estuary pilot on board as soon as they reach the Jade Approach traffic separation zone (between “GB” lightship and “TG18” buoy”). The pilot reaches the vessel on a pilot transfer boat. Depending upon the weather conditions and/or requirements the pilot may also be transferred by helicopter.

The position of the pilot vessel is in the proximity of the light buoy “3/Jade 2”, and in the event of bad weather in the vicinity of Minseneroog.

Route Type of ship Length / Width / Draught in metres
1. Inbound from the respective position of the pilot boat (except Nord-Reede, Neue Weser-Reede and Reede von Wilhelmshaven) a) Tankers as defined in Art. 30 (1) SeeSchStrO all
b) Other seagoing vessels as from 90 / as from 13 / as from 8

Outbound from the pilot boat to the outer position of the pilot boat in the area of the light buoy “3/Jade2” if the pilot boat has moved its position further up the Weser due to poor weather Seagoing vessels which are not tankers as defined in Art. 30 (1) SeeSchStrO as from 170 / as from 28 / n.s.

Radar advice

Shipping traffic in the German Bight and on the River Jade is monitored using radar and assisted by a Maritime Transport Guidance System. Ships with a length of more than 50 m are obliged to report arrival at and departure from the port to Verkehrszentrale Wilhelmshaven.

Land radar advice is provided by “Jade-Radar”; VHF channel 16/63/20

  • if visibility is less than 2,000 m between light buoy “3/Jade2” and Wilhelmshaven
  • if the pilot vessel is in the bad weather position, for the route to the pilot vessel, and in the case of outgoing ships from the pilot vessel to the end of the pilotage area
  • if light buoys have been removed due to ice formation and land radar advice is necessary for this reason
  • if ordered by shipping police
  • at the request of the ship’s command

Land radar advice does not exempt the ship from the obligation to use the services of a pilot.

Port pilots

Port pilots are available at all times. Depending on the ship’s size, draught and the mooring area to be occupied, incoming vessels are usually assigned a port pilot as from buoy “33”. In some cases, the harbour master may order that a pilot be taken on board.

Deep sea pilots

Deep sea pilots may be requested from the Elbe Pilots Association, Pilotage Area II in Brunsbüttel.

Tel.: +49 (0) 48 52 – 8 72 46
Fax: +49 (0 48 52 – 8 74 87 (weekdays 07:30 – 15:30)
Fax: +49 (0 48 52 – 8 71 65 (all other times)

Vessels can also use the services of a pilot on traffic routes close to the coast in the inner German Bight. The pilotage route is the waterway from the holding position south of the light buoy “Borkumriff” to the outer positions of the pilot boats (Jade/Weser/Elbe).
