The WILHELMSHAVEN EXPRESS reaches Wilhelmshaven

22.07.2025

Wilhelmshaven, July 22nd – exactly 12 years, 10 months, and one day after the opening of our port, one of the world’s largest container ships – the #WILHELMSHAVENEXPRESS – arrived in Wilhelmshaven. A true milestone in the history of JadeWeserPort. It is 399.9 meters long, has a capacity of 23,664 TEU (or 39,440 elephants), and is the crowning achievement in Hapag-Lloyd AG’s series of twelve LNG-powered megamax newbuilds. Who would have thought back then, at the opening of Germany’s only deep-water port, that Wilhelmshaven would one day be the namesake of one of the world’s largest container ships? Back then, the Maersk LAGUNA, with a capacity of around 8,000 TEU and a length of 299 meters, was unloaded at the EUROGATE Group Terminal – today, it is a ship that is 100 meters longer and 15,000 TEU larger. A strong sign of Wilhelmshaven’s importance as the northern hub of the Gemini Cooperation and as a central hub for global goods flows. We are proud and look forward to the christening of this giant in October.
