JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven receives environmental management certification
Wilhelmshaven, May 8th – JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven, Germany’s only deep-water container port, has been awarded its fifth PERS environmental management certification. This award emphasises the port’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental protection. PERS, the Port Environmental Review System, is an instrument for comprehensively analysing and monitoring environmental management in the port sector. The certificate was issued by the Brussels-based international organisation EcoPorts.
The certification is based on a comprehensive process in which all environmentally relevant aspects of port operations are analysed and optimised. The overall goal being to minimise the ecological impact of port operations and at the same time increase efficiency. The measures include the optimisation of energy consumption, the planning and management of existing infrastructure taking ecological aspects into account and the management of natural areas.
“We are proud to have received this important certification. It confirms our efforts to position JadeWeserPort as a pioneer for sustainable port logistics,” explains Holger Banik, Managing Director of JadeWeserPort Realisierungs GmbH & Co KG (JWPR) and Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co KG (NPorts). “Sustainability is a central component of our corporate strategy and we will continue to work on achieving our environmental goals.”
The environmental management certification is not only an important milestone for JadeWeserPort but also a signal to the port’s customers and partners. It shows that economic success and environmental protection can go hand in hand. The port plans to further expand its environmental initiatives in the years ahead to meet the increasing demands for sustainable logistics.
